Bruce Jenner's anticipated, exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer finally aired Friday evening on ABC's 20/20 special edition. After much speculation, Jenner confirmed to Sawyer that he is on the road to transitioning from male to female. In the very emotional two-hour sit down with Sawyer, the reality star explained when the thought of transitioning started for him, stating,
" I would say I've always been very confused with my gender identity since I was this big. So, here I am stuck and I hate the word 'girls stuck in a guy's body', I hate that terminology. I'm me. I'm a person and this is who I am. I'm not stuck in anyone's body."
Jenner later confirms to Sawyer that he identifies as a female and also expressed to Sawyer, that he initially started the process of transitioning in the 1980's. According to ABC News, Bruce's story had twitter in a media frenzy with over a million tweets, trending worldwide with he hashtag #BruceJenner. Jenner's ex-wife and matriarch of the Kardashian family, Kris Jenner also took to twitter Friday evening to express her support for Bruce, tweeting,
"Not only was I able to call my husband for 25 years and the father of my children, I am now able to call him my hero."
Jenner did not confirm when he will publicly emerge as a woman, nor what his new name will be.
